wolfSSL has lab-demoed wolfCrypt as a crypto provider for VPP. VPP (Vector Packet Processing) is FD.io’s user-space networking data plane. wolfCrypt plugs into VPP’s crypto dispatch and handles IPsec traffic.
VPP has no FIPS 140-3 validated crypto path today. The built-in crypto has no validation. The OpenSSL path carries whatever FIPS posture OpenSSL has; on most deployments, none. VPP’s crypto provider interface is pluggable; wolfCrypt slots in the same way OpenSSL or the native provider does. wolfCrypt holds FIPS 140-3 validation under CMVP certificate #4718, the world’s first SP 800-140Br1 certificate. Plugging it in gives the data plane a FIPS-validated cryptographic path.
You keep your existing VPP deployment. No locked-down distro, no physical appliance. wolfCrypt drops into your current build as a crypto provider, and your IPsec forwarding path becomes FIPS-validated.
If your deployment runs VPP and needs FIPS 140-3, contact us. The provider integration is available on request. See also: wolfProvider FIPS for 35+ open-source packages.
