We’re pleased to announce that wolfSSL can now be integrated directly into the secure sockets layer of the Zephyr RTOS. The required patches are available now in our Open Source Project (OSP) repository.
What This Means
These patches let you swap out mbedTLS and use wolfSSL as the TLS provider behind Zephyr’s native socket API. Because the integration sits at the secure sockets layer, everything Zephyr builds on top of it comes along for free. Higher-layer networking features such as the HTTP client and server, WebSockets, and other TLS-backed protocols now run over wolfSSL without any changes to your application code.
The result is a drop-in path to wolfSSL’s cryptography and TLS stack for your Zephyr project, including our progressive support for post-quantum algorithms, hardware acceleration, and FIPS 140-3 validated cryptography, all while keeping the familiar Zephyr APIs your application already depends on.
Keeping Pace with Zephyr
We are committed to aligning these patches with upcoming Zephyr releases in a timely manner, so you can adopt new Zephyr versions without losing wolfSSL support. We’re also actively working on making this integration even simpler in the future, and we’ll share more as that work progresses.
