Getting the Best Open Source Support from wolfSSL

At wolfSSL, we love supporting the open source community. Our roots are in open source, and many of the projects that rely on wolfSSL, wolfCrypt, wolfSSH, wolfBoot, wolfTPM, and our other libraries are open source themselves. Whether you are integrating wolfSSL into a hobby project, contributing to a larger ecosystem, building a product on top of our libraries, and especially if you are a paying customer, we want to make sure you get the help you need quickly and effectively.

Here is a guide to the support channels available to you and some tips on how to get the most out of them.

GitHub Issues

Our GitHub repositories are open and we actively monitor issues filed there. If you have found a bug, have a feature request, or want to discuss a technical question related to a specific project, opening a GitHub issue is a great way to get started. Our engineering team reviews incoming issues and will work with you to understand and resolve the problem.

When filing an issue, including details such as the version you are using, your build configuration, and steps to reproduce the problem will help us get to a resolution faster.

This is not an appropriate medium for submitting a vulnerability report as there is no confidentiality. This is also not appropriate for people wishing to engage in a commercial relationship with wolfSSL. In both of these cases, consider using our email support system; support@wolfssl.com.

You can find our repositories at github.com/wolfSSL.

wolfSSL Forum

For broader questions, discussions, or if you want to connect with other wolfSSL users, our community forums are an excellent resource. The forums are a good place to ask general questions, share how you are using wolfSSL, or get advice on configuration and integration.

Similarly, our forums are not an appropriate venue for discussions of vulnerabilities nor commercial relationships.

Email Support

If you prefer email, you can reach our support team directly at support@wolfssl.com. Sending an email to this address will automatically create a support ticket in our system, ensuring your request is tracked and assigned to the right engineer. If you want your issue to be treated with the highest priority, this is your best option.

If you are in a commercial relationship with wolfSSL, this is the only appropriate channel for technical support.

Support by the Engineers Who Build the Code

One thing that makes wolfSSL support unique is that our support tickets are handled by the same engineers who develop the projects. When you file a ticket or open an issue, you are not talking to a generic help desk. You are communicating directly with the people who write and maintain the code. This means faster, more informed answers and a direct path to fixes when bugs are identified.

Keeping Tickets Focused

To help us help you as effectively as possible, we recommend keeping each issue or support ticket focused on a single topic. If you run into a separate problem or have an unrelated question, opening a new issue or ticket is the best approach. This practice helps in several ways: it allows us to assign the right engineer with the right expertise to each question, it keeps the context clear for anyone who may need to review the conversation later, and it makes it easier to track progress and resolution for each individual concern.

We understand that sometimes one investigation leads to discovering something else, and that is completely normal. In those cases, a quick new ticket referencing the original keeps everything organized and ensures nothing falls through the cracks.

Please don’t be put off if we close a github issue or support ticket quicker than you expected. We perform thousands of support interactions per year and strive to respond to them as professionally as possible. That means when we think we’ve solved a problem, we close the ticket or issue so we are not overwhelmed by our tracking systems. If you think there is more to discuss you can always re-open or create a new ticket or issue.
